mixi成功上市
September 14, 2006
Pete Cashmore
Mixi, the so-called “Japanese MySpace”, debuted on the Tokyo Stock Exchange today. The value of the shares doubled on the first day of trading, making 30 year-old founder Kenji Kasahara a US billionaire. Investors bid 3.15 million yen for each share, compared to an initial offering of 1.55 million yen - Kasahara’s 65 percent stake is now worth $1.2 billion.
Mixi is reporting 5 million members and 80 percent of its profits from come from ads - the rest comes from premium accounts. They’re reporting sales of 4.8 billion yen, which they hope to double this year. Even so, I maintain that Mixi is riding the social networking hype curve in Asia, along with Korean phenomenon Cyworld. There’s no doubt that these sites will become massive - and will remain untouched by US exports like MySpace - but it still seems overblown. Then again, perhaps I’m being overly skeptical of a site that’s bound to keep on growing.
