Pretty Big Feet
This was a Chinese movie about two female teachers. The story happened in the northwest of China. This area was one of the poorest areas in China, because the environment was bad. The people who lived there couldn’t find water. Even if there was a well, they must stand in a line to get a little polluted water. There was only a rough road leading to a small train station. It would take a few hours on foot to reach the station. Nobody would like to come here to be teachers, except one teacher. Her name was Beauty Xiang and she had two big feet. So the movie was called Pretty Big Feet. She knew the importance of knowledge. Poorness and ignorance were brothers. She didn’t want the next generation to repeat the poor life. Though she almost had no payment, because all the student families were too poor to pay for tuition. She was badly ill, but she zipped her mouth until she was breathless. The other teacher was a rich and fashionable woman. At first she lived and worked in Beijing. When she went there to help the children, she moved by the spirit of Beauty Xiang and the students. She decided to stay here to teach. Her husband left her because of her decision. She took over the Miss Xiang’s work.
I was weeping all the time when I watched the movies. I would never forget some details in the movie. The area was very desert, even plant couldn’t live, so the sand blown by wind was very horrible. It made the wood house shake. The water had some kind of strange smell, the teacher of city couldn’t drink it, Miss Xiang ran to far away the village to pick the skin of orange to put in the water for the other teacher.
